Betsey Ann Ives, born February 1811, was the daughter of Samuel Ives and sister of Washington and Helen Ives. Ezekiel German, Samuel Ives and Washington Ives appear next to each other in the 1855 census of Delaware County. Betsey named two of her sons Samuel and Washington, and named one of her daughters Helen.
From the 1830's into the 1860's Ezekiel and Betsey lived along what is now Cal Grant Road in the northeast corner of Delaware County, about 5 miles from Prattsville, Greene County, New York, on Lot 34 of the Northern Division of Great Lot 19 of the Hardenburg Patent. Isaac, Zachariah and Abel also lived in the immediate area during this time*. According to the Gould map of 1856, the Ives family, the Lynch family (Isaac's daughter Gitty German married Patrick Lynch), and the Nichol family (Abel German's wife was Delanah Nichol) also lived in the immediate area. An 1867 map of Prattsville shows Ebenezer Soule, who married Rachel German, as also living very near although in Greene County.
This entry appears in the Delaware County records of the Court of Oyer and Terminer for November 20, 1828 (emphasis added):
The People v. Ezekiel German: The Defendant recognized in the sum of $1000 and Isaac F German his Surety(?) in the sum of $500 for Defts. appearance at the next court of Oyer & Terminer . Samuel Chatfield, Ira Hubble, Abraham(?) Decker & Samuel P. Ives recognized in the sum of $100 each to appear at the same time as witnesses. [Notes: the dollar amounts all appear without decimal points, although without them these are very large amounts of money for the time. Also the word "witnesses" is unclear, but in comparison to the same phrase in the preceding court case I think this is likely the right word.]
This entry appears in a list of 1848 births for Delaware County, NY: (Note this is not Zachariah's son Samuel, who was born June 15, 1834.)
GERMAN Samuel m Sep 05 Ezekiel & Betsey German Roxbury.
This appears in the Delaware County town accounts for 1863, for the township of Roxbury:
Ezekiel German Tax paid on slut which he did not own 3.00 (this appears under the heading Audited and to be paid from the Dog Fund.)
Ezekiel and Betsey sold their land in the 1860's. Their granddaughter Nora L Pickering appears on page 297 of Lineage Book of the Charter Members of the DAR Vol 077, which gives their years of birth and death.
*Abel died in 1844, Isaac sold his land in 1849 and Zachariah moved to Oregon County, Illinois in 1855.
